Long form is a style of webcomic with a story of signifigant length. Long form webcomics fall into two categories:

1) Serialized webcomics telling an ongoing story.

2) Non-serialized webcomic with a complete story.

Non-serialized long form webcomics are relatively rare. Justine Shaw's Nowhere Girl is sometimes cited as an example, but is in fact a serialized story with unusually long chapters (two published so far.) A more accurate example of non-serialized long form is Tristan Farnon's Winter Pageant.

Some webcomickers assert that serialized webcomics are not essentially different from non-serialized ones. But others point out that serialization tends to impose a format on the storytelling, and that very few serialized webcomics stories have ever reached completion.

In 2003, Modern Tales launched a recurring feature, Longplay, to publish non-serialized long form webcomics.
